What does an age result mean?
MesraTools uses the common birthday-based age convention: a completed year is added on each birthday. The detailed result separates calendar age from exact elapsed days because calendar months have unequal lengths.
Years, months and days are counted using calendar boundaries rather than treating every month as a fixed number of days.
Total days, hours, minutes and seconds are derived from the exact date interval, so they are useful when you need a single continuous duration.
Some historical and cultural systems count age differently. This calculator intentionally uses the widely used birthday-based system and states that convention clearly.
Why can two age calculators differ?
Dates near the end of a month can be interpreted differently. For example, February has fewer days than March, and leap years add another special case. MesraTools borrows calendar units from the previous month when necessary, then reports the remaining completed years, months and days. This is a consistent method, but another calculator can reasonably choose a different end-of-month convention.
Leap-day birthdays
If a person was born on 29 February, the exact date exists only in leap years. For countdown purposes, this calculator uses the last valid day of February in non-leap years. Legal treatment of a leap-day birthday can vary by jurisdiction.

FAQ
Does age increase at midnight on the birthday?
For ordinary calendar calculations, a new completed year begins on the birthday date. Legal rules can be more specific in some jurisdictions.
Are total months exact?
The displayed total completed months are calendar months derived from the calendar age. They are not obtained by dividing total days by an average month length.
Why are seconds approximate?
The calculator treats each selected date as the start of that calendar day and multiplies the elapsed whole days. It does not know the person's exact birth time.
