Audio Noise Gate / Expander

Reduce low-level sections using threshold-based downward expansion without uploading your file.

What this tool does

Build 110 uses a linked peak detector and downward-expansion curve. Audio below the threshold is progressively attenuated; settings above the threshold are left at unity gain.

When to use it

Use it to reduce quiet room tone, headphone bleed or pauses where unwanted sound is already lower than wanted material. It works best when wanted and unwanted levels are clearly separated.

Important limitations

This is not spectral denoising, AI source separation, hum removal or restoration. A gate cannot identify noise independently when noise overlaps speech or music. Aggressive thresholds can chop word endings, ambience and reverb tails.

Recommended workflow

Start with a low threshold and moderate ratio, then increase only as needed. Longer release times usually sound smoother. Preview on important material before replacing any production copy.
