Advanced retirement plan

Model both the years while you are saving and the years when you are drawing down your retirement fund. Change the assumptions to test conservative and optimistic outcomes.

Pension, rental income, annuity or other recurring income.
Enter your assumptions and calculate.

The line follows your estimated retirement fund through the saving phase and then through retirement drawdown. The dashed vertical line marks retirement age.

Malaysia EPF retirement reference

For MYR users, these are optional reference levels from EPF's Retirement Income Adequacy framework. They are not your personal retirement target and do not replace the spending-based calculation above.

How this advanced retirement calculator works

During your working years, the calculator grows your current savings using the return assumption and adds either fixed contributions or salary-based employee/employer contributions. Contributions can rise each year and you can include an annual top-up.

At retirement, your desired monthly spending and other retirement income are adjusted for inflation. The calculator then estimates the retirement fund required to support the net spending through your selected life expectancy while the remaining fund continues earning your retirement return assumption.

What to test

Try a lower investment return, higher inflation, earlier retirement, longer life expectancy and higher retirement spending. A plan that still works under less favorable assumptions is generally more resilient than one that succeeds only under a single optimistic forecast.

Important limitations

This is an educational projection, not financial, investment, tax, legal, pension or statutory advice. Returns, inflation and longevity are uncertain. Taxes, investment fees, insurance, healthcare shocks, sequence-of-returns risk, changing contribution rules and country-specific withdrawal restrictions are not automatically modeled.

FAQ

Why is the required fund different from monthly spending × retirement months?

The advanced model allows the remaining retirement fund to earn a return while withdrawals rise with inflation, so it discounts future net spending back to the retirement date instead of using a simple multiplication.

Can I model EPF-style contributions?

Yes. Choose Salary % + employer % and enter the contribution percentages you want to test. The calculator deliberately keeps those rates editable instead of silently assuming that one statutory rate applies to every user.

What does the scenario comparison mean?

The conservative and optimistic projections move both pre-retirement and retirement return assumptions by two percentage points. They are sensitivity tests, not forecasts or guarantees.
