Audio Pitch Shifter
Transpose decoded audio by semitones while targeting the original duration using bounded browser resampling plus overlap-add.
-12 = one octave down; +12 = one octave up.
How it works
Build 106 first performs a bounded linear resampling step to create the requested pitch ratio, then applies its browser overlap-add foundation to target the original duration. This makes pitch and duration controls independent in intent rather than simply changing playback rate.
Quality implications
This is an early utility-grade browser pitch-shift foundation, not a formant-preserving vocal processor, phase-vocoder mastering engine or DAW replacement. Large shifts may sound metallic, smeared or unnatural, particularly on polyphonic music and transients.
Result interpretation
Positive semitones raise pitch; negative values lower it. The exported duration is targeted to match the decoded source, subject to frame rounding.
Privacy and metadata
Processing stays local. Output is 16-bit PCM WAV and does not preserve source ID3, artwork or compressed-format metadata.
Example
+2 semitones raises pitch by a whole tone while targeting the same duration.
FAQ
Does it preserve vocal formants? No such claim is made. Is +12 semitones exactly an octave ratio? The requested pitch factor is mathematically 2×, but audible quality still depends on the browser algorithm.
