Audio Metadata Editor
Edit common text metadata for supported MP3 and RIFF/WAVE files locally in your browser. The source audio stream is preserved byte-for-byte apart from supported metadata container changes.
Supported metadata writing
Build 112 writes common fields to MP3 ID3v2.3 or RIFF/WAVE LIST/INFO. MP3 output replaces the leading ID3v2 tag with a newly generated ID3v2.3 text tag. WAV output replaces existing LIST/INFO metadata while preserving other RIFF chunks in their existing byte form.
What is not changed
This tool does not decode and re-encode the audio payload. It does not convert codecs, normalize audio, alter sample values, remove trailing ID3v1 tags, rewrite embedded artwork, or claim universal support for FLAC/Vorbis comments, MP4/M4A atoms, chapters or proprietary vendor metadata.
Why use a new output file?
Browser tools cannot safely overwrite your original local file in place. MesraTools creates a new downloadable file so you can compare it with the original before replacing anything.
Recommended workflow
Inspect the original metadata first, edit only fields you understand, download the new file, then reopen the output in the Metadata Inspector or your normal media player. Keep the original until you confirm the new tags behave as expected.
Character and compatibility notes
MP3 text is written using ID3v2.3 UTF-16 text frames for broad compatibility. WAV LIST/INFO is a simpler legacy metadata convention and software support varies. A player may also display a different tag source if the file contains other metadata blocks not rewritten by this tool.
Privacy
Reading and metadata rewriting happen in the browser. The selected audio file is not intentionally uploaded to the MesraTools server.
FAQ
Does editing tags reduce audio quality? No audio transcoding is performed by this Build 112 workflow. Can I add cover art? Not in this foundation. Can I edit M4A or FLAC tags? Not yet; those formats remain inspection-only unless a separately verified writer is added.
