DC Offset Analyzer & Corrector

Measure the arithmetic mean of each decoded channel and optionally subtract that mean before exporting a new WAV.

What DC offset is

For this tool, DC offset is the arithmetic mean of all decoded samples in each channel. A signal centered exactly around digital zero has a mean close to zero. The correction subtracts each channel's measured mean from every sample.

When correction may help

Noticeable offset can reduce symmetrical headroom and may contribute to clicks around some edits. Very small means can be normal numerical or decoder variation; correction is not always necessary.

Important limitations

This is whole-file mean subtraction. It does not track time-varying bias, remove hum, high-pass filter rumble, restore clipped audio or diagnose analog hardware. Subtraction can push some samples beyond full scale, so Build 107 reports any samples constrained to the WAV range.

Privacy and output

Analysis and correction are local. Output is a new 16-bit PCM WAV; the original file is unchanged and source metadata is not preserved.

FAQ

Is every non-zero mean a problem? No. Does this remove 50/60 Hz hum? No. Does it normalize loudness? No.
